Couple of days work

8-14-14

Today I put in the elastomeric drive coupler (after drilling a hole through the center — not mentioned in the video) into the two couplers.  One coupler is at the transmission the other is at the tail rotor gear box.  Also in the coupler is an alignment shaft — the reason for the hole mentioned above.  I then put the two bearings in the clamps and tightened them down slightly.  Then the fun began.  I had to cut the drive shafts to length.  I marked the bearings and couplers as BJ mention then measured 3 or 4 times.  I started with the longest section just in case I didn’t like the cut, I figured I could use it on a short section if it didn’t work out.  But things went well and all three section worked out.

Starting the installation of the drive shaft couplers.  The hole had to be drilled completely through the coupler, on one side was drilled then the hole had to be opened with a letter “D” drill bit so the bolt fits snugly in place.  The real key here is holding your mouth in the right position while you drill.

  1. It’s looking good, Glenn. Is the inaugural flight still about a year away?
Also, how was your trip down to KY? If you have some pics or video from your time down there, those would be fun to see as well. Maybe next year I’ll go to that with you.
